Whether it takes listening, galvanizing, organizing, speaking out, education, charming, cajoling, begging, pleading…I will always focus on less talk and more forward progress.

I will always focus on solutions.

"Waylon Lewis, the founder and editor-in-chief of the mindfulness-themed Elephant Journal, will run for a seat on Boulder City Council this fall.

Lewis, whose candidacy was officially certified earlier this week, is a Boulder native but said the city’s growing “affordability challenge” and rising public safety concerns have made Boulder feel like a different place from the one he grew up in.

“There’s a general sense of frustration and sadness about the direction Boulder’s heading,” Lewis said. “Instead of looking at solutions and pushing towards solutions, I think too many

However, his main goal in running for city council is to help “create a community that we can all feel safe in and inspired by.” He emphasized that he is running as an “independent”..."

A conversation with Mr. Philip Ogren, a “War on Cars” fan, comedian, and caring Boulderite who biked to meet me in a historic cemetery by a little farmers’ ditch.

Winnie enjoyed this podcast/video thoroughly, though he would have preferred to jump in and play with all the dogs walking by.

My City of Boulder campaign video. We only had a few minutes off-the-cuff, and I forgot to mention my web site, but hopefully it’s moderately helpful.

My intro begins at 19 minutes in.

The launch party!

  • Speakers: Sol Halpern, who I grew up with in the Buddhist community.

  • State Senate Majority Leader Steve Fenberg, who I served on the board of New Era Colorado with for many years.

  • Boulder Mayor Aaron Brockett.

  • Former Mayor Zan Jones & director of EcoCycle with Former County Commissioner Elise Jones

  • Waylon Lewis, candidate for Boulder City Council & founder of Elephant Journal.

Campaign Updates from Waylon (most are now in our newsletter—sign up!)

Met with the City of Boulder & have a date—August 8th—for my Council Signing Party! Are you a Boulder voter? Want to come to the Signing Party? Contact me.Campaign officially begins in less than two weeks!

Three more big endorsements so far this week. The train chugs forward and upward and onward!
State Rep. Edie Hooton just endorsed! Full list of endorsements
here.

Boulder Progressives is not endorsing. Had an honest, respectful, supportive phone call and am disappointed but no surprised.

Former Mayor Sam Weaver is endorsing; he’s the third mayor to endorse my soon-run.

Yard Signs are on the way! They’re fun, gorgeous, hopefully meaningful in message. Let me know if you want one and I can personally bike one over for a hello or a chat. As the campaign progresses (it hasn’t started yet) I will have helpers and won’t be delivering all yard signs myself. :)

My friend Luke has come on board to help with this web site, thankfully! I’m out of my depth here.
We’re looking at a block party in my neighborhood, partially for my candidacy, mostly for our dear community up here on the Hill.

Joellen Raderstorf just endorsed!

Junie Joseph (who also gave me so much helpful, kind advice, I teared up) & Mark Wallach, one of those who encouraged me to run from way back & who I in some ways model my own would-be service after, both formally endorsed Waylon for Boulder today!

Yard signs are here! Sign up for yours, here.

My plan is as simple as this: show up, get my arse kicked by those angry with the City, listen, learn, bring folks together (which is hard, not some idealistic thing) and work toward imperfect but far better solutions that actually improve things, help people.

Serving City Council and boards should be accessible to all who live here.

City Council should be paid a living wage, or closer to it. Too many on in leadership naturally view affordability from up here, down. We need it to be easier for renters and folks from all income levels and diverse backgrounds to be able to serve on Council without having to be wealthy and/or retired or workaholics (guilty).

As of yesterday at 5pm, I'm officially a candidate for Boulder City Council..!

As an environmentalist vegan bike-loving Buddhist, I'm particularly proud to be endorsed by Stephen Tebo, who is many good and generous and caring things, but none of those things.
